Everyone is turning attention to staying healthy, with the ever-present threat of the Coronavirus looming over us.
It’s clearly making a huge, negative impact on day to day life. While this strain of disease appears to be particularly aggressive and highly infectious, the advice we’re being given is relatively basic. It’s things like “wash your hands and avoid contact with the public”.
That’s sound information, certainly. But luckily, there’s a lot more that you can do to keep yourself in good condition.
How To Stay Sick
I used to get sick, like a lot. And when I did, I tended to stay sick, a lot longer than people around me and it would hit me harder than it hit them.
That obviously annoyed the hell out of me, so here’s some of what I discovered that helped me. And to help you pay attention during these tidbits of suggestion, consider this.
Since I started doing the things that I am suggesting here, I have only been sick maybe two or three times in the last five or six years.
That’s still a pretty stark difference from before, when I would get sick like one to three times… every year and typically, I’d stay sick for anywhere from one to three weeks.
And one of those times I got sick was because I was doing demolition work on a construction crew. It was right after the hurricane, in Wilmington, NC. We were dealing with moldy insulation and the foreman didn’t provide us with the correct type of of masks. We had those cheap ones that only keep out sawdust.
Stuff You Can Do To Stay Healthy
- Cut out processed foods – eat organic as much as possible and what your budget will allow, steer away from anything with ingredients that you don’t know what the hell it is.
- Avoid sugar and junk food – again, as much as you can, without torturing yourself; I can tear up some Ben & Jerry’s, like nobody’s bidness (Americone Dream and Chunky Monkey, those are my jams 😉) but I don’t do it often.
- Avoid dairy – dairy products have benefits but they create breeding grounds in your system for bacteria and… ding ding 🔔 viruses
- Don’t smoke – corona virus is respiratory and if it (or any other airborne virus) can grab gunk in your lungs, it can breed.
- Don’t drink alcohol – it’s poison. Alcohol is the absolute end result of all chemical processes, the last stop on the train. Use alcohol to clean surfaces and sterilize items but don’t drink it.
- Basic hygiene – I already had this one under control but obviously it belongs on the list. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, etc. Clean surfaces like cellphones, keyboards, doorknobs, etc, with antibacterial solutions.
- Green foods, green drinks, green (whole, food-based) vitamins, herbal supplements and remedies – all of these help your system thrive, even in particularly harsh situations.
- Protein – make sure to get enough protein with each meal and choose healthy types of protein, healthy carbs and healthy fats.
- Spiritual practices and meditation – stress invites sickness because, like sugar snd alcohol, it lowers your immune resistance. The whole “Keep calm” thing is NOT hogwash… unless you rely on that, alone. Rituals and meditation strengthen your aura, which does help… again, it won’t do a damn thing for you, if that’s all you do. But rituals and meditation IN COMBINATION with the other things, gives you a boost of protection.
- Spicy foods – it certainly doesn’t hurt to introduce into your system some hot stuff. It will clear out the mucous, which is part of what makes it easier for viruses to set up shop inside you.
- Vinegar – particularly Bragg’s brand vinegar, because they process it in a way that makes it less acidic and therefore, easier on your digestive system. Take a tablespoon of vinegar in a glass of water.
- Water – on that note, stay hydrated.

Finally, since it looks like we’re all going to be spending a lot more time alone and with just family or roommates, maybe do this, too.
Use the time to clean. Bacteria, dust, etc, these hide in unclean environments and clutter gives these a way to remain unseen. Plus, clutter is mentally stressful. As already mentioned, stress invites sickness.
Finally… relax and do the things that matter to you. Do things that remind you why you want to be alive. Read, listen to and/or play music, play games with your family or roommates.
