Zodiac Oils – Twelve oils for working with the twelve signs of the Zodiac.

Each of these oils are made with only the highest quality, true essential oils. There are no synthetics in these recipes. Likewise, the herbs, roots and/or resins in them are all organic (or wild-harvested).

Using the Zodiac Oils 

The most obvious use for these magickal oils is in what rootworkers call the Zodiac Candle. This is one of the candles in a spell that represents a particular person. That may be the spell-caster, themselves or a friend or client they’re working for.

Usually, the candle itself is a particular color, one that relates to the zodiacal sign in question. However, in a pinch, a simple, white candle works fine.

By Names and Images

Most workers will inscribe the name of the person who the candle represents, directly onto the candle. You’ll likely see different teachers present how to do this in several different ways. I personally recommend that you start at the wick and carve toward the base of the candle.

Some people work straight across the surface and others work the name in a spiral fashion, wrapping around the candle, like a barbershop pole or a candy cane. These are equally valid methods and I use both, depending upon what type of spell I’m doing.

Also, a common practice is to inscribe the zodiac candle with other, personal information about the “target”. Target is a neutral, general term and here, it implies neither positive spells, nor negative ones. Target is just the person (or persons) that the spell is aimed at.

Other Uses

There are many other possible ways of incorporating these oils. For one, you anoint yourself with the Zodiac Oil of your Sun Sign and say a prayer or invocation, to bring out the best qualities of that Sign in your personal nature. You could repeat this process for your Rising Sign (the Ascendant or AC), as well as each of the Planets in your natal chart. Note, you will use the Sign that the Planet is in. You could get creative and do a lot of different types of workings, using the planetary and zodiacal oils, together.

Another possible use is in the consecration of specific tools. Some systems have you make one or more  particular tools that are specifically dedicated to a particular zodiacal sign. In such a case, having an oil to dress it with, that’s also dedicated to that Sign, is ideal. In ceremonial magick systems, such as The Golden Dawn, practitioners spend time working with each, individual Element, Planet and Sign.

There’s lots and lots of ideas but really, you’re probably going to find that using these for Zodiac Candles is the most practical and the most common use for the oils. A professional worker will want to have all twelve, so they can work for anyone they need to.

All twelve signs are here. The Cardinal Signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. There’s the Kerubic (or Fixed) Signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Last but not least, the Mutable (or Common) Signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.
