Cedar Leaf
Thuja plicata
Planet: Jupiter and/or Sol (the Sun)
Astrological Sign: Sagittarius
Magickal Element: Fire
Gender: Masculine
The Cedars of Lebanon stand tall in biblical legend, with their royal scent and reputation for producing fine houses. Many great temples are Cedar wood and Cedar Leaf is associated with Jupiter and Sol. See also Helios, another God who represents high, heavenly office, and the majesty of supreme authority.
This all natural leaf is a regal addition to any incense or bath mix and grinds nicely into a powder. Lay it out out in an offering bowl upon your altar or burn in on charcoal. Cedar Leaf produces a sweet, aromatic smell, especially burning it and more so with candle light and prayers. Use it as part of a smudge blend to do a house cleansing and as a spell ingredient. It’s useful for gaining assistance and to work your way up in the ranks of the status quo.
J.M. Greer says it’s part of the ancient Egyptians’ rites of mummification. It’s a symbol of everlasting life and that’s why it’s in so many cemeteries.
